ABOUT

Boardwalk/Handmade Minnesota shares the creative bug with crafters of all ages.  Starting in 2011 as a traveling workshop to schools and youth camps, we have grown to a brick and mortar studio conveniently across from Oak View Middle School.

Boardwalk is a family owned business and we are passionate about quality handmade products, supporting the small individual business owner and the local economy.  We want our friends and neighbors to have the opportunity to own unique, quality items made by hard working crafters and you.

Having a permanent location helps us offer more programs to the surrounding community of family and friends.

Our Instructors

Sometimes - we just get lucky.  If you believe that everything happens for a reason - then read on.

John (owner, instructor, "Jack of all trades - master of none.")

John has been teaching students of all ages for over 20 years.  Eagle Scout (1991).  Starting in 1996 as a Crew Lead for the Sea Island (SC) Habitat for Humanity - he found that he had a knack for patience and finding infinite ways to mentor volunteers so they could learn at their own individual pace.  He has been a Resident Business Leader for Minnesota Business Venture (BestPrep) and a Merit Badge Counselor (Boy Scouts) since 2011.

Sheri (Manager/Instructor)

Sheri is our lead instructor. She has a strong attention to detail and insists that you like your project - or we will continue until it is right.

Sheri is probably the best example of our ‘like it’ guarantee. If your project has a mishap - or didn’t come out just right - Sheri may just be able to fix it for you.

Briette (Instructor)

Briette ('Bree') is studying to be a teacher.  As a teacher - she shows patience and a spark for creativity.  As a student herself - Briette strives for just the right amount of detail and has been known to take the extra time and effort to make sure each participant's project is as perfect as it can be.

Partners

Dan's Fence — Dan’s Fence is a family owned and operated full service fence company offering commercial, residential, and repairs. Our partnership with Dan's Fence and friend/employee Larry Kostick has helped us recycle over 1200 lbs of cedar fencing cut-offs - previously destined for a landfill.  All of our wooden toys use this cedar - which is soft and easy for little hands to work with.

The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company — In 1974, after much experimentation, The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company  has recreated an old Milk Paint formula to provide an authentic finish for restoring original Colonial or Shaker furniture, making reproductions, or striving for an interior design look that is both authentic and beautiful. Boardwalk uses their products to lend a vintage quality to thier projects - as well as a truly non-toxic, easy to clean - soap and water clean up.

MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce — MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce is the premier business organization and business advocate in the north metro area. When you join the MetroNorth Chamber you hire a professional team who acts as your voice on business issues as well as provides relevant and quality programming to help you grow your business.  If you think of joining - tell them 'John sent you."
